T-minus 12 days until I begin the Pacific Crest Trail

Wow!!! I’ve now quit my job to hike the Pacific Crest Trail! I can officially say that I’m no longer stuck in a rut!!! I’m going to use this blog post to discuss all gear I’m going to use on my hike.

One question I’m asked again and again is… what gear are you using on your 2,600 mile hike??? Well, here’s a picture of nearly all of my gear that I’m going to use.

Starting from the bottom left, going from left to right. A knife sitting on top of my waterproof rain shell. I’ll use that to fight off mountain lions, rattle snakes, and bear. JUST KIDDING, I hope! Next, is a hatand gloves. Sleeping shirt and pants, wind breaker and beenie for more cold weather protection.

The second row is cold soaker, fuel for food stove for heated cooking and titanium pot for heating water/food, water filter, 3 total pair of socks, 3 pair underwater, and a bandanna. I’m going to go gansta. LOL.

The 3rd row is: black small stuffed sack for foot care products. I’ve got to protect my feet. My feet will make or break me. Next is a head lamp then general hygiene/misc stuff like lip balm, sunscreen, nail clippers, tooth brush/paste, etc, Lastly is a first aid/medical kit, something I hope ends up being dead weight I don’t use!!

The back row is my daily rations of food, tent, pegs, sleeping bag, pad, and backpack.. More on actual gear brand names later. Also hidden in that pile are my digital gear, necessary for bringing these posts to you, such as phone, portable keyboard, Anker 20 battery, and charging cords.

Lastly, I’m wearing a safari hat. In addition to going gansta with my bandana, I want to channel my inner Indiana Jones!!!

So, there you have it. Most of my gear. I’m undecided on camp shoes and a few other items I will probably leave behind, such as extra shirt and tent “footprint”. In 5 days you will get to experience Havasu Falls with me. I can’t wait!!

I’m also getting extremely nervous about my hike. My emotions are all over the place, from “I’ve got this”, to, “Idiot”. But, no matter what happens, I can say that I wasn’t afraid to take the risk, and that I gave it my best shot.

Take care and thank you for reading! Stay tuned for my next post….. road trip before Havasu and the PCT!!!
