Sunny, high 63. Light breeze. 28 miles hiked from Beverly to S. of Waldport, then 10 miles the next day to Yachats.
I decided to group these 2 days together. I hiked approximately 28 miles to my campsite south of Waldport, then hiked to Yachats the next morning where I will be taking my first 0 day!
This is a wonderful segment as nearly all of it is on beaches! I had entire beaches to myself! I resupplied at Walmart in Newport. A local walked up to me and asked if I was a hiker. I told him what I was doing and he talked to me about hiking! More friendly people!
This segment was rather anticlimactic, miles and miles of beach walking, hiking through Agate Beach, Newport, South Beach, and Seal Rock state park.
I have arrived in Yachats, taking a 0 day, the first 0 day in nearly 200 miles of Oregon Coast Trail! I’ve talked to the cashier at the small grocery store, the motel owner and a vacationing couple from Glasgow, Scotland. They gave me a ride to the Amanda Trail. He’s a Physics instructor at Perdue University. This region seems so different from northern Oregon!
Enjoy your day off trail, Jason. The beaches look amazing. Looking forward to picking your brain once you’ve returned!
I look forward to discussing it with you guys!
So disappointing about the no camping and also having to risk hiking the sides of the road. Someone should adjust this trail.
I totally agree! Adjusting this is in the works, but lots of legalities are in the way.
Ahh, Jason. My parents used to host at a campground on the coast every summer. Not sure which one. I think it was around the Newport area. I am sure enjoying your blog and the wonderful scenery you are posting. Be sure to keep a lookout for the Orca pods. Thanks for sharing. It is bringing back wonderful memories.
You’re welcome!
